Guy E. Baker, CLU, ChFC  /  BTA Advisory Group

Guy is Managing Director of BTA Advisory Group, a Newport Beach, California based management consulting firm specializing in the issues and problems facing closely held businesses since 1986. He is also the Managing Director of Baker, Thomsen Associates, a compensation and benefits consulting firm specializing in closely held businesses.

Guy graduated from Claremont McKenna College (BS/Economics-1967) and the University of Southern California (MBA Finance-1968). He was Manager of Pacific Mutual's USC campus office for two years before becoming a full time agent in 1970. Guy earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1972 and Chartered Financial Consultant in 1981. He also holds a Master's degree in Financial Services (MSFS) and Master's in Management (MSM). In addition, he is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and an RHU (Registered Health Underwriter). He has taught five continuing education classes in the financial planning program at UCI.

A Life and Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table [MDRT] since 1970, he has also been a continuing qualifying member of the Top of the Table (made up of the top 500 international agents) since 1977. Guy was Divisional Vice President of the Business and Education Division for Million Dollar Round Table in 1995-96. He has served as chairman of several MDRT committees and task forces, most recently the Productivity task force. He was appointed Divisional Vice President for Member Administration in 1984. Guy was on the Program Development Committee for four years and also served on the TOT Advisory Board for 3 years and as the 1988 Program Chairman. He is an active member in the Advanced Association of Life Underwriters, a Washington D.C. based organization dedicated to working with Congress in the formulation of industry favorable legislation. Since joining AALU, he was elected to the Board of Directors and is currently Regional Chairman for the AALU Political Contacts Committee.

Guy has received many industry awards, including the Pacific Mutual Preston Hotchkis "Distinguished Achievement Award", which resulted in a $10,000 gift to Mexican Christian Missions.. He has been recognized as Pacific Mutual's Agent of the Year as well as the Orange County Agent of the Year. He served as President of the Orange County Life Underwriter's Association and as a regional LUPAC Trustee. Recently he was inducted into the Pacific Mutual Hall of Honor recognizing his 30 years of leadership among Pacific Mutual agents. Guy was elected as Class A Director for the MDRT Foundation, a national charity serving local communities throughout the US. He also acts as Chairman of the Board for Mexican Christian Missions in San Diego, an organization which supports over 60 churches and pastors throughout Mexico. He was a major gifts fund-raiser for the Orange County Center for Performing Arts and served on the fund raising committee for South Coast Repertory. In the past, he has been on the Advisory Board for the South Coast YMCA and a Board member of Teen Challenge. In addition, he has worked with many other civic and community organizations including serving as President of the Claremont McKenna Alumni Association and as a member of CMC's Board of Trustees. He was founder of the Claremont McKenna Alumni Association's Commercial Affiliates, a networking organization for the alumni.

A frequent writer and speaker, Guy has spoken in 5 countries. He just published his fourth book, "Investment Alchemy", his other books "Why People Buy." and "Baker's Dozen - 13 Principles for Financial Success" have now reached over 10,000 in print. The Box, an easy to understand discussion about the fundamentals of life insurance, has over 50,000 in circulation. In addition, he has developed an 8 cassette seminar training album, called "Market Tuneup", to assist professional agents in their quest to increase productivity.

Guy has been married to Colleen since 1967 and they live in San Juan Capistrano where they have four children and six grandchildren.
